Wrekin Golf Club Seniors Section
It’s a pleasure to welcome you to the Seniors Section, a Group which began life back in 1982 as ‘The Vets’ and has since developed and expanded to include some 80 + Members. Membership of the Section is open to any Club Member aged 55 and over – a ‘token’ annual subscription of just £5 affords Members the opportunity to play in our Competitions and represent the Club in Friendly/Social matches with neighboring Clubs. We play Seniors Competitions on most Mondays during the course of the main season, with ‘Friendly’ matches, on a ‘Home/Away’ basis, normally taking place on Thursdays. We also have an ‘Away Day’, an ongoing ‘Knockout’ for the Challenge Trophy, and our Christmas Lunch and Prize Presentation at the end of the Year.

The World Handicap System [WHS] is now in use – Check Your HANDICAP INDEX Before You Play – it can change without you realising ! Bear in mind that it’s based on the best 8 of your most recent 20 ‘qualifying’ rounds so, when you input a ‘new’ round, the computer software will automatically replace the earliest of your 20 rounds with your most recent score. This procedure could change your ‘Best 8/20’ and amend your Handicap Index. You can check your Handicap Index through our Computer Terminal or via the Club V1, HowDidiDo or MyEG [England Golf] Apps. Having confirmed your Handicap Index – check the COURSE HANDICAP CHART [by Reception] to convert your Handicap Index to your ‘Course Handicap’ for the day. When you play in COMPETITIONS, the COMPUTER WILL AUTOMATICALLY APPLY A MANDATORY HANDICAP ALLOWANCE according to the type of competition. In our individual Strokeplay or Stableford Competitions for example, this will produce a PLAYING HANDICAP which will be 95% of your COURSE HANDICAP. You don’t have to calculate this PLAYING HANDICAP yourself, it will be automatically generated by the Computer Software when Dave sets up the Competition and will be applied when you input your score after your round. Given that you will only receive 95% of your Course Handicap, you may find that your Nett Score could be 1 shot more than you anticipated, or your Stableford score could be 1 shot less – but this calculation will obviously be applied to all competitors, across the board. In 4-Ball Stableford [our Seniors Open for example] the Mandatory Handicap Allowance will be 85%, in Individual Matchplay it will be 100% [our Seniors Knockout] and in 4 Ball Matchplay [our Friendly Inter-Club matches] it will be 90%.
