- Yellow tees – 381 yards, par 4, SI – 5
- Red tees – 380 yards, par 5, SI – 8
Suggestions for playing the hole
The marker post is the line for your drive. If the wind is with, consider using a 3-wood as a drive may fall to the right. For your 2nd shot, the poplars behind the green is the suggested line. The green is cut into the bank, any shot falling short will roll drastically right.
The 2nd hole is via the path above the green.
Hole 2 – Old Dormie
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 113 yards, par 3, SI – 17
- Yellow tees – 115 yards, par 3, SI – 17
- Red tees – 116 yards, par 3, SI – 18
Suggestions for playing the hole
Surrounded by 3 new reshaped eco bunkers (March 2023) this green slopes from top left to bottom right. Any shot above the pin is 3 putt territory on this tricky green.
The 3rd tee is to the left of the green.
Hole 3 – The Bridle
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 369 yards, par 4, SI – 7
- Yellow tees – 369 yards, par 4, SI – 7
- Red tees – 364 yards, par 4, SI – 2
Suggestions for playing the hole
The 150-yard marker on the left side of the fairway is the ideal driving line or consider a 3-wood as a long drive (c230 yards) may reach the ditch. Ring the bell when crossing the ditch. Any approach shot landing short will fall to right.
The 4th tee is to the right of the green
Hole 4 – The Spring
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 192 yards, par 3, SI – 9
- Yellow tees – 170 yards, par 3, SI – 9
- Red tees – 170 yards, par 3, SI – 4
Suggestions for playing the hole
This uphill par 3 plays longer than it’s yardage. The green slopes from back left to front right but not as severe as before the successful rebuild in 2011.
The 5th tee is to the left of the green.
Hole 5 – Wrekin View
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 408 yards, par 4, SI – 3
- Yellow tees – 385 yards, par 4, SI – 3
- Red tees – 377 yards, par 5, SI – 14
Suggestions for playing the hole
If you can drive it long aim at the mast on the Wrekin summit, otherwise, the marker post is the line. A tricky 2nd shot, as it is difficult to stop balls on the green, consider playing short to run onto the green as OOB is in play beyond the green.
The 6th tee is to the left of the green.
Hole 6 – Holly Bush
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 287 yards, par 4, SI – 15
- Yellow tees – 281 yards, par 4, SI – 15
- Red tees – 277 yards, par 4, SI – 16
Suggestions for playing the hole
The key is the shot onto the green. It is possible to drive the hole, but the grass mound on the right will catch off-line tee shots. A short approach shot will kick to the left & it is easy to run off on the left side of the green leaving a difficult pitch.
The 7th tee is to the left of the green.
Hole 7 – The Pulpit
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 196 yards, par 3, SI – 11
- Yellow tees – 189 yards, par 3, SI – 11
- Red tees – 167 yards, par 3, SI – 12
Suggestions for playing the hole
Along with the 10th, the 7th is one of our signature holes. Guarded by bunkers & a ditch, the ‘bail out’ is to the right. Note the flag on the green, as the wind can be much stronger at the green than on the tee.
The 8th tee is behind the green.
Hole 8 – Long Valley
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 459 yards, par 4, SI – 1
- Yellow tees – 433 yards, par 4, SI – 1
- Red tees – 432 yards, par 5, SI – 6
Suggestions for playing the hole
Drives will roll left on landing so aim at the right edge of the fairway, the lone tree is the line. The ditch across the fairway determines the 2nd shot. If you can get on or close to the green go for it, if not lay up before the ditch. This 2 tier green slopes from back to front.
The 9th tee is to the left of the green.
Hole 9 – Ercall Side
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 264 yards, par 4, SI – 13
- Yellow tees – 246 yards, par 4, SI – 13
- Red tees – 249 yards, par 4, SI – 10
Suggestions for playing the hole
The fairway slopes from left to right, with a severe slope beneath the green which will catch any shot short and right. Don’t be short!!
The 10th yellow & white tees are via the paths beyond the green. Please note that the 10th red tee is above the 9th green.
Hole 10 – Dumble ‘Ole
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 376 yards, par 4, SI – 14
- Yellow tees – 355 yards, par 4, SI – 14
- Red tees – 322 yards, par 4, SI – 9
Suggestions for playing the hole
Avoid the central tree line, the 2nd shot is easiest from the right side of the fairway but be aware of the 2 new deep eco bunkers (March 2022). There is a ‘dumble ‘ole’ (deep valley) in front of the green which slopes sharply from back to front & from left to right.
The 11th tee is to the left of the green.
Hole 11 – Toper’s Last
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 428 yards, par 4, SI – 2
- Yellow tees – 407 yards, par 4, SI – 2
- Red tees – 425 yards, par 5, SI – 11
Suggestions for playing the hole
Avoid the right tree line. The 2nd shot uphill is all about yardage, there are small bunkers to both sides of the entrance to the green. The green is long and flat. The ‘Lodge’ serves refreshments on key days & a portaloo is on site.
The 12th tee beyond the green.
Hole 12 – Plateau
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 170 yards, par 3, SI – 12
- Yellow tees – 161 yards, par 3, SI – 12
- Red tees – 163 yards, par 3, SI – 5
Suggestions for playing the hole
Tee shots will kick right on landing if you are short or right of the green. The left-hand bunker is a good line but avoid the deep front bunker. The green slopes from left to right. The ditch skirting the woods is marked with red stakes but beyond the ditch is OOB.
The 13th tee is above the green via the path. Leave buggies & trolleys at the bottom of the path.
Hole 13 – Spion Kop
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 443 yards, par 4, SI – 10
- Yellow tees – 443 yards, par 4, SI – 10
- Red tees – 441 yards, par 4, SI – 3
Suggestions for playing the hole
Our 2nd signature hole, so enjoy the panoramic view. This spectacular hole plays shorter than it’s yardage. For the longer hitters, the line is the white block of flats in the distance. Tee shots will run long and fall left. There is a sleeper wall to the front of the green so a running ball in can be unpredictable.
The 14th tee is behind the green.
Hole 14 – The Dingle
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 167 yards, par 3, SI – 16
- Yellow tees – 164 yards, par 3, SI – 16
- Red tees – 164 yards, par 3, SI – 17
Suggestions for playing the hole
Ideal for ‘Nearest the Pin’. Tee shots on this delightful par 3 run from right to left. A tee shot can be aimed at the right-hand bunker & may finish in the middle of the green. There is dead ground in front of the green. This newly relaid & drained green with new eco bunkers (March 2023) slopes from front to back & from right to left.
The 15th tee is over the lane.
Hole 15 – Lane Side
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 447 yards, par 4, SI – 4
- Yellow tees – 427 yards, par 4, SI – 4
- Red tees – 408 yards, par 4, SI – 1
Suggestions for playing the hole
The original 18th (pre M54). OOB all the way down the left side. Drives will kick left on landing so aim at the right edge of the fairway, the poplars are a good line. The raised green runs back to front & any shot off either side will leave a tricky chip back.
The 16th tee is to the right of the green.
Hole 16 – Ow’d First
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 367 yards, par 4, SI – 8
- Yellow tees – 367 yards, par 4, SI – 8
- Red tees – 366 yards, par 5, SI – 14
Suggestions for playing the hole.
The original 1st hole (pre M54). Avoid the right tree line. The uphill 2nd shot is longer than the yardage suggests. The green slopes back to front & a shot to the front of the green will roll back off.
The 17th tee is to the left of the green.
Hole 17 – Reservoir
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 135 yards, par 3, SI – 18
- Yellow tees – 127 yards, par 3, SI – 18
- Red tees – 134 yards, par 3, SI – 13
Suggestions for playing the hole
This is a straightforward uphill par 3 & plays longer than the yardage. The green slopes back to front & right to left. The green is protected by bunkers to the front & right.
The 18th tee is back over the lane.
Hole 18 – The Ridge
Length, par & stroke index
- White tees – 390 yards, par 4, SI – 6
- Yellow tees – 362 yards, par 4, SI – 6
- Red tees – 359 yards, par 5 SI – 7
Suggestions for playing the hole
The best approach is from the left side of the fairway to avoid the trees to the right. The ridge will give tricky lies so either play short or be sure to carry it. The Captain’s Charity eco bunker is front left. The green slopes severely from back to front, a short shot onto the green will run back off.
