Avoid the tree line to the right. The 2nd shot uphill is all about yardage, there are small bunkers to both sides of the entrance to the green. This spectacular hole plays shorter than it’s yardage. For the longer hitters, the best line is the white block of flats in the distance. Tee shots will run long and to the left. The original 18th (Pre M54). Out Of Bounds all the way down the left side. Drives will kick to the left on landing so aim at the right edge of the fairway, the poplars are a good line. The raised green is relatively flat but any shot off either side will leave a tricky chip up.

The original 1st hole (Pre M54). The strategy for this hole is to avoid the tree line both left and right. The 2nd shot is longer than the yardage suggests. The green slopes from back to front, if the greens are running fast a shot to the front of the green may well fall back off.

Suggestions for playing the hole
The best approach is from the left side of the fairway as the trees to the right are overhanging. The ridge may give tricky lies so either play short or be sure to carry it. The Captain’s Charity bunker is front left. The green slopes severely from back to front, a short shot onto the green may well run back off.
