Congratulations to Sue Pidgeon for winning the over 65’s competition at the Senior Women’s Midlands Regional Tournament played on 8th-9th July at Warmley Golf Club.

Captain, Pete Buchanan, really enjoyed his Captains day on a sunny warm Sunday in June - his main prize was won by Richard Davies. Lady Captain, Joy Riley also had an excellent day with warm sunny weather - her main prize was won by Sally Goulds.

We were delighted to hear that Heather Anderson, still an assocaite member at Wrekin, has won the Scottish Senior stroke-play championship at Fortrose and Rosemarkie - well done Heather. She was runner up in the Scottish Senior matchplay championship as well. Great golf.

For the first time in 20 years a Wrekin lady has won the Shropshire Ladies County Championships. Congratulations to Lucy Evans who is Shropshire Ladies County Champion, she beat Vicky Bradbeer of Oswestry in the final at Mile End Golf Club having beaten Lisa Warrilow of Lilleshall Hall Golf Club in the morning semi final. Lucy also won the Jean Barrowclough Cup for the leading intermediate player.

Shame - the Ladies Mail on Sunday team, led by Ladies Vice Captain Ros Curel, lost in the 6th round at Alice Springs Golf Club, Nr Cardiff on Sunday.

We are delighted to confirm that we have retained our GolfMark status this year, GolfMark is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities.

It was great to see so many players from Wrekin at the Spring Invitation played at Market Drayton Golf Club on Sunday 2nd May. Congratulations again to Jamie Brittain - he shot 74 then 71 to win, Jamie now leads the Order of Merit table.

Congratulations to junior Lucy Evans who was fifth at Fairhaven with scores of 81 & 78 total 159, when taking part in the Fairhaven Trophies Under-18 Open International Amateur Championship played over 72 holes at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lytham St Annes from 30th April to 2nd May.

Congratulations to our junior members - William Enefer who got the best score in a Juniors Golf Tour event at Llanymynech in March and Emily Childs, playing with Jean Barrowclough , who won the 9 hole Junior & Senior competition at Hill Valley on 7th April.

The General Committee narrowly beat the Ladies Committee - the match was played seriously but with a lot of good humour on a lovely sunny Friday evening in April.

Reciprocal agreements with Bridgnorth, Church Stretton & Ludlow Golf Clubs have now been agreed - a member of Wrekin will be able to play at one of these clubs for a reduced fee. Please ask the pro Owen for more details. To use a reciprocal agreement you need to contact the professional at the relevant club in advance to check there are free tee times, and when you arrive to have proof that you are a Wrekin members (e.g. your members card & fixtures).
